Forgotten Sounds Album Release

At the end of 2023 Outhere Music welcomed Delos to its roster. In June the impressive catalogue of this acclaimed American classical music label will be further enhanced with the first of its 2024 releases: Forgotten Sounds by Graeme Steele Johnson. This recording also marks the beginning of a new relationship between Delos and Graeme, a versatile clarinetist whose artistic endeavours range from a TEDx talk to chamber arrangements and performances with the award-winning WindSync.

Unheard for over a century, Charles Martin Loeffler’s Octet is given its world-premiere recording here on Delos. Composed for two clarinets, harp, two violins, viola, cello and double bass, it is a gem that blends Brahmsian warmth with Impressionist harmony, reflecting the American composer’s German and French roots. Distinguished musicians have joined Graeme in this compelling exploration of musical rediscovery which aims to enrich the present musical landscape by restoring these Forgotten Sounds.

The program also includes Graeme’s octet arrangement of Debussy's famed Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, a work suffused with the poetic Symbolism dear to Loeffler, and aptly concludes with another little-known Loeffler work, the titular Timbres oubliés.
